  EVENING PRIMROSE OIL ITEM DESCRIPTION
from the box... ?

Evening Primrose, a native North American herb, is so called for its primrose yellow flowers that blossom in the evening. Evening Primrose Oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an important precursor of the hormone-like prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which plays active roles in regulating human physiological functions, especially in females. Supplementing proper GLA helps regulate cardiovascular function and toning in both genders as well as supports a healthy skin.

We use only the highest quality oil from North America extracted by a proprietary cold pres technique, never exceeding 104?F (40?C). This gentle refining process, which doesn't use any harmful solvent, removes unwanted pesticides and heavy metals while retaining its natural potency. Only pharmaceutical GMP conditions that meet the WHO Codex standards are used.

Our stringent quality control requirement for both raw material selection and finished product testing allows us to guarantee the highest quality and product stability available anywhere. They clearly differentiate our product from any others currently available in the market.

    Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)

Evening primrose is a plant with yellow flowers that's native to North America. Its medicinal components are found in the seed-extracted oil, which contains essential fatty acids: including linolenic and gamma linolenic acid (GLA or γ-linolenic). Essential fatty acids such as GLA are required by the body for growth and development, and must be obtained from the diet. However, GLA is often deficient in the Western diet and is needed to encourage the production of prostraglandins. Some experts suggest that low levels of essential fatty acids may increase the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which is why evening primrose oil is used extensively to alleviate PMS symptoms. Aside from PMS, diabetes is another adverse effect of low prostraglandin production.

Evening primrose oil has also been used to treat menopausal symptoms, asthma, and has been shown to reduce high blood cholesterol levels. Research conducted in Great Britain has indicated that evening primrose oil can also be medicinally useful in the treatment of nerve disorders, such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. The oil can also help relieve dry eyes, brittle nails, and acne when combined with zinc. Evening primrose oil has been used since the 1930s for eczema (a condition in which the skin becomes inflamed, itchy, or scaly because of allergies or other irritation).

Evening primrose oil is valued for its antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are substances that counteract the damaging effects of oxidation in living tissue. A team of Canadian researchers has recently identified the specific antioxidant compounds in evening primrose oil; one of them, a yellow substance known as catechin, appears to inhibit the growth of cancerous tumors and lower the risk of heart disease.
