The Problem
According to the chart above, 9 out of the 10 leading causes of death in the United States are due to diseases or infections. Over 90% of all diseases that you can possibly name or come across are chronic, or stem from chronic conditions. Multiple medical reports and scientific studies have concluded there’s a direct correlation between an improper diet and many of humanity’s diseases. In actuality, the food we eat should be the medicine we use to treat an illness. If a proper diet is maintained, additional medicines are unnecessary.
However, let’s take a look at our food’s origin. We’ve discussed the problem with poor soil which results in cultivation problems. Contaminants infect our vegetation and all the different types of meat we eat, all of which contribute to ill health. Excessive food processing and refineries strip the remaining nutrients from the end product. After those barriers, we have to tackle our entirely wrong and skewed nutritional concepts. For example, a common misconception involves the amount of animal meat we intake. We think that animal meat will strengthen our own bodies and help us grow but too much animal meat is actually harmful to our bodies. Our cooking habits don’t help the situation either, particularly in Taiwan. Taiwanese people fry, boil and bake at high temperatures. Include the influence of Western culture and the result is too many of our meals are based on fast food. Moreover, our dining speed is too quick and we’ve become accustomed to conversing and eating simultaneously. If alone, we eat while watching television or using the computer. We simply never whole-heartedly sit down and just have a meal. All of these wrong diet habits are contributors to health deterioration.
